NH’s Instructional Materials Center is home to thousands of Braille and large print books, learning tools for students with vision loss and/or hearing loss, assistive technology tools, and resources for educators and parents related to the educational needs of students with sensory impairments.

Services provided by the IMC include research to locate large print and Braille books needed by students, including a search of our own inventory as well as those of other centers across the country.  In addition, the IMC has access to funds provided by the American Printing House for the Blind to purchase books and materials for use by students.  If books cannot be located for loan or APH purchase, the IMC will provide schools with options for quality, cost-effective purchase of those materials.

The IMC also provides short term loan of low vision aids, vision assistive technology for students with vision loss and assistive listening devices (FM Systems) for students with hearing loss.  Using available inventory, schools may borrow equipment for short periods of time to evaluate its effectiveness with a particular student, or in case of emergency such as when a student’s FM system needs to be sent out for repair.

The library at the IMC also includes professional resources, instructional tools such as tactile maps, toys for children with vision loss, pleasure reading books in large print and Braille, and much more.  Teachers, parents and students are encouraged to call and make an appointment with Carrie to come in and explore!
